In northern part of Sweden there are large-scale investments in mining and basic industries, within LKAB as well Boliden, Vattenfall and Northland Resources. Those investments together with a major alternation of generations as well as increased demands of knowledge make maintenance of labour force and competence extremely important for the region in the future.
In Finland more than ever far-reaching plans for mining and some of these plans are comprehensive even compared in an international point of view. A major need for labour will arise by different reasons: major pensioning, new staff is needed for new investments as well as it lack of competent labour even in other countries and that there are a certain emigration from Finland.
The need for competent labour is not only with mining and basic industries. It is just as big within the small- and medium sized companies that functions as subcontractor to those industries.
This training will not be enough for the major expected need for recruiting. Companies in mining an basic industry will be forced to recruit labour that have there basic education in other field of activities and they probably will look for labour national as well as international in order to fill the need for labour that is expected. It means major in-service training work will be needed for the future in the region.
Objective and aim
The purpose is to develop training efforts within basic-, higher as well as management training for mining, basic industry and subcontractors need. The purpose is also to increase labour cross border mobility, to develop attractive place of work by increasing knowledge in strategic competence maintenance, a great variety of cultural and personal developing among companies.
Aim
The aim is that mining industry, basic industry and the small and medium sized companies in northern Sweden and Finland has access
• to basic education in mining industry for newly employed labour
• top education for already employed with need that education in mining industry and basic industry
• management training for already employed works manager with need for in-service courses in mining and basic industry
The objective is also that
• the companies concerned has developed network that facilitate cooperation in strategic competence support
• increasing competence in variety of cultural
