Possibilities for studying the upper forms are limited in many regions because of distance and decreasing population. Travelling to the study centre is expensive and time wasting. High-class music teaching for some instruments is almost non-existent in rural areas. School of music’s are interested to offer high-class music teaching in compulsory school and at senior level in regions where access to that kind of education is limited by geographical reasons. It is important that pedagogical and technical experts together can solve problems with music education in those cases.
Music institutions in North Calotte area has during the previous programme period investigate the situation for virtual music teaching in the region. One can verify that none of the institutions concerned uses virtual music education in an all-round and extensive way. Certainly there are good attempts and example on virtual music education for instance at Oulu regions Polytechnic school, Lapland Music Institute and Särestö Academy. One general lack on wide and all-round virtual music education in the North Calotte has created the need for this project.
Needs for virtual music education arise most by geographical reasons as consequence of long distance. Begin using new technology in music education is still in the beginning and making use of it is imperfect. There are hardly any instrumental pedagogue that control virtual pedagogic and research for instrumental education in this moment.
Aim
Vir Music will bring about an active national and international network for virtual education in music and permanent the using of virtual instrumental pedagogic in education. The project also aim at further education for working instrumental pedagogue, research in virtual pedagogic for instrumental education as well as interdisciplinary developing of technology in virtual education and applied use.
Objective
Purposes are that virtual music education is a daily part of education in the contributory music institutions by
• the contributory institutions, in cooperation, bring about virtual education in music at all levels, from beginners to a master degree
• virtual music pedagogic, both methods and technique, develop and integrates in instrumental pedagogic education
• possibilities to use virtual education in music will be tried out and research about solving problems in sound and picture develops
• existing web solutions that can save and distribute education material is is ready to be used
