ProjectDescriptionBackground Sverigefinska Vocational College (Svefi) in Haparanda, Kemi-Torneå University of Applied Sciences (KTUAS) in Kemi/Tornio and Lappia Vocational College in Tornio has for several years tried to start cooperation between schools in the field of culture. The demand for cooperation is mainly from students and teachers at the schools since the knowledge, competence and facilities that are available differ between them and a common use of resources would contribute to all schools improvement of qualifications in culture related study programme. By different reasons has no arranged cooperation started in spite several attempts and common planning meeting. In February 2008 a work shop was carried out together with students and teachers from the culture related study programme from Svefi in Haparanda, Kemi-Torneå University of Applied Sciences and Lappia Vocational College. As a result from the workshop it came out a number of activities that the involved schools could make together. It would to contribute so that the management, teachers and students in schools get to know each other better, can see what resources other schools have and can see the potential in long term cooperation cross the border. Those activities mainly constitute of different types of common, exiting, cross border and creative workshops and events that youth themselves have proposed. An increasing cooperation between the schools would even broaden students cultural platform and they could exchange experiences that they otherwise would miss. Aim Schools taking part will with this project contribute to getting youth in the border region closer each other. At the same time shall the schools increase their knowledge in, look into and compare how teachers work in both side of the border. They will also study each others experiences, create possibilities for cooperation and take care of each others resources within culture related study programmes at school. It’s about which opportunity there is to engage external experts together in certain fields in order to divide costs. Objective The long-term objective with the project is that youth in border region of Haparanda-Tornio can find natural ways to be together and get to know each other at the same time as cooperation between schools and students within culture related study programmes at school will continue after the project and will have space in regular activity in schools. In a long-term recruiting of students from each other countries can also increase as well as culture manifoldness and acceptance. This will also give youth greater opportunity to stay in the region. Finally hope is that a future cooperation between schools also can contribute to activities that will be showed to public in forms of different culture activities at the border. This would make Haparanda-Tornio to a more attractive student and culture city with cross border cooperation that creates interesting activities for visitors and inhabitants to take part in.
