ProjectDescriptionBackground On both sides of the border activity environment is characterized by long distances and a small population. The same problem is in social and healthcare sector. The number of elderly is large and increasing all the time. The population is living longer and longer why also illness and need for help is increasing. Services is few and elderly experience loneliness and insecure. The threshold for moving to a chief town (Kirkenes, Ivalo) far away from their own language and culture environment is lower than normal since the number of employees is low in rural areas. Objective and aim 1. To develop new, innovative activity models for cross border cooperation for elderly and home services. 2. To investigate need for services on both sides of the border and how the services can be developed in cooperation. 3. To compare how services that can support living at home has been solved in other places in South Varanger and Enare municipality. 4. To unite good ways of working and service models on both side of the border. 5. To develop personnel’s all-round skills. 6. To achieve an agreement of cooperation between municipalities. When the project is completed elderly in the border area will have opportunity to live longer in their own language and culture environment thanks to personnel’s wider job knowledge and cross border cooperation. Through developing services that correspond to and are adapted to peoples need functioned safety net for elderly will be created with help of service strategies coordinated by municipalities.
