From the project “Refuse transport in North Calotte area” that was granted from Steering Committee in June 2008 this is a further development that include refuse logistic over the entire North Calotte including Finland. Presentation of the problem is still the same – waste is growing together with transport. For the moment has transport system for waste economic as well as environmental shortage. Lorries don’t have a sufficient maximum load and utilization of capacity. A improved logistic structure that consist of all countries in North Calotte is supposed to generate economical and environmentally advantages.
Objective and aim
The purpose of this project is to identify the condition for an integrated waste logistical market for the North Calotte - independent of national borders. The project work will form the basis of an increasing cooperation in handling refuse by focusing on improvement in environment and logistic.
The aim is to identify the most important economical and environmentally challenges in this market as:
- Balanced goods flow and capacity use in present transport system
- Suggestion to alternative transport solution and structure
