We are living in a time with global competition and growing climate changes. The opportunities and challenges that globalization creates can’t be solved by a single country. It demands that countries and regions act together. The Nordic Council and Nordic Council of Ministers have begun an increasing cooperation between the Nordic countries in order to strengthen the Nordic role in globalization. Sweden is presidency for Nordic Council of Ministers in 2008 with focus on climate changes.
The North Calotte Conference 2008 in Haparanda will focus on how North Calotte, as a region, is influenced by globalization and how a regional Nordic cooperation can create possibilities for a competitive as well as an environmentally sustainable North Calotte. The relation between an increasing global competition and growing climate changes will be conference theme.
The north Calotte Conference is a forum where the grass roots in North Calotte, younger as well as older, meet politicians and decision makers.
Objective and aim
The purpose with the project is to discuss how an increasing global competition and growing climate changes will influence population in North Calotte and how expansion can increase and competiveness be strengthen.
The purpose is also to bring together persons doing research, leader of a business and representative for North Calotte in a dialog and to discuss the need for a common strategy for globalization.
The aim is to organize a North Calotte Conference and a parallel youth conference in Haparanda in August 2008. Results from the conference will be put together and processed further in different constellations in the counties.
