ProjectDescriptionBackground “På Gränsen – Rajalla” is a co-operative project of two cities located in two different countries, Haparanda (Sweden) and Tornio (Finland). “På Gränsen – Rajalla” project started in order to let the two cities grow together even more. The High Street that is a part of the project has already been realized as well as the plans for realization of border canal, border market place, flood security and a park. In the project that now will start is one part of the infrastructure that is most important for the connected cities. It is construction of “Gränsbågen” that prevent Tornio River from flooding the centre. Objective and aim The project will unite functioned Centre areas in the towns of Haparanda and Tornio to one function unity.
