The peace between Russia and Sweden in1809 had the result that Finland belonged to Russia after being a part of Sweden for many hundred years. The border was along Könkämö, Muonio och Tornio River. Condition governing one's life changed fundamentally. Villages and homestead on both sides of the River suddenly belonged to different countries. The knowledge of this dividing up is week in south part of Sweden and imperfect in Norrbotten end even in the Torne Valley. The Smuggler Opera in Pello 2004/2005 and Laestadius Opera 2007/2008 has both throw light upon the situation in the Torne Valley. The Smuggler Opera has illustrated the local populations view on smuggling and the importance it had to promote entrepreneurship. The Laestadius church has among other things contributed to keep contacts over the border between Finland and Sweden. The War-opera will give a historical perspective that is of great value for inhabitants on both side of the border.
Objective and aim
The primary purpose of War-opera is to increase knowledge about the history that have impress and developed Torne Valley.
Aim:
1. Create a network between institutions and companies on both side of the border.
2. Create a unique music-theatre show with high quality.
4. Act for at least 10 000 spectators.
5. At least one third of them should be tourist from outside the region.
6. Improve cooperation between culture and trade and industry.
7. Strengthen position of culture in municipalities’ strategy.
