| ProjectDescription | Background
Experiences from ongoing project indicate on the importance of that starting point for education in mathematics is in Sami culture, traditional knowledge and Sami language. The importance of tie education in mathematic together with language and culture is commented in research however there is a lack of Sami research in the field. Planned project have reference to mathematic from Sami culture, Sami language as school language with functional bilingualism as purpose.
Objective and aim
Purpose with the project is to initiate a vitalization of Sami language and traditional knowledge by development work in Sami and mathematics in the Sami education in Sami nursery school and school.
The overall purpose is to strengthen Sami children/pupils vitalization of Sami and traditional knowledge. Concrete it will lead to designing of a pedagogical support material for education in mathematic from a Sami perspective as well as a pedagogical resource book for crossing between nursery school and school.
Intermediate goal is to develop cooperation between Luleå technical university and Tromsö College as education institute for teachers and the field that educated teachers are going to work in.
